MISSION & ACHIEVEMENTS

MISSION

We are a voluntary organization founded in 1979. We believe that every child that is born has right for optimum health-care. Our association assists in covering the financial deficiencies that hamper the proper treatment of underprivileged children admitted at the National Institute of Child Health Karachi. We believe that our patients should benefit from the latest development for the treatment of cancer, therefore every effort is made to encourage our staff to acquire new knowledge by attending conferences, seminars and through internet. A group of Pakistani oncologist working in USA and UK and other countries are always available to our staff for consultation for problem cases. The Child Aid Association also invites guest lecturers and holds seminars.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Child Aid Association has the honor of having provided help to over a million children by providing medicines and paying for expensive laboratory and radiological investigations done outside the hospital. We also have the privilege of having established the first Pediatric Oncology Unit in Pakistan, through public donations, at the National Institute of Child Health Karachi, a public sector institution, in 1999. Till July 2011 the unit has provided free investigations and treatment to over 3500 under privileged children suffering from cancer, coming from all areas of Pakistan. Fifty percent of them have become disease free and returned to their normal routines. Coming from lower socio economic group, 60% of these children suffered from malnutrition, and lived in dwellings in unhygienic surroundings. Some live in the remote areas of the country where proper follow up is difficult. To provide the best possible diagnostic facilities for the cancer we have established a state of the art lab. facilities of flow-cytometry (2004), cytogenetics (2007), tumor markers (2008) and molecular (2009) investigations. Free of charge facilities are also available to the patients of other units of NICH. We received generous financial and technical support for the establishment of these laboratories from Association of Physicians of Pakistani descent of North America (APPNA), Department of Cytogenetics Texas Children Hospital Houston Texas, Rotary Club Sunset Millennium Karachi, Rotary International, Infaq Foundation, Sheikh Sultan Trust, Gatron Industries, Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal and many other well wishers.
